UKRep Rome is part of the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO). We are based in and work closely with the British Embassy in Rome, linking up closely with FCDO policy teams in the UK as well as with country offices and collaborating with the UK Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra). Our mission is to increase the efficiency, effectiveness and impact of FAO, IFAD and WFP in their work to address global food security, meet humanitarian needs, sustain agriculture and the natural environment, combat climate change and contribute to the SDGs (and in particular, SDG 1 to end poverty and SDG 2 zero hunger).

This internship is an opportunity to learn about and develop work experience in the UN system, particularly the World Food Programme; as well as to understand how the UK is represented at the UN agencies in Rome and works with other Member States to build consensus and achieve objectives. UKRep Rome is a small, friendly team that works closely with the UN agencies and other member state representatives, as well as civil society and the private sector and this internship provides an opportunity to learn from the range of UKRep Rome’s work and develop international communication and influencing skills. The focus of this internship will be WFP in the context of the UK’s chairing of the List D group of donors to WFP for a year from February 2021.

The intern will support our team effort to represent the UK in an important year - with the UK Presidency of the G7, and COP26 with Italy, as well the UN Food Systems Summit - reporting to the Deputy Permanent Representative to WFP and will work with us to:

a. Support WFP List D and Executive Board Bureau (EBB) meetings through: - Help in arranging and preparing List and EBB meetings, in coordination with WFP’s Secretary to the Executive Board. - Meeting note taking. - Follow-up on List activities, particularly in preparation for Executive Board meetings (that take place in February, June and November), including coordination work, such as the finalisation of List statements.

b. Support UK preparation of WFP Executive Board meetings, including through: - Preparation of briefing packs. - Liaising with FCDO policy teams to ensure FCDO positions are reflected in all UK statements at WFP’s Executive Board. - Organising bilateral meetings and side-events in the margins of the formal session. - Note-taking and report writing.

c. Support to the organisation and preparation of other UKRep Rome meetings (including with FAO, IFAD, the CFS, as well as bilateral calls and visits) as needed.

Essential skills and experience:

· Fluent English – both spoken and written. OFFICIAL

· Excellent communication skills.

· Good organisational skills.

· Excellent IT skills (MS Office ideally) and ability to work remotely as well as travel to and from the British Embassy and WFP, FAO, IFAD HQ after COVID restrictions are eased.

· Demonstrable interest in the UN and international development.
