[apologies for cross-posting]

Dear colleague,

The deadline for paper submission to the Special Session “Intelligence at the Network Edge” co-located with the 61st Fitce International Congress that will be in Rome, September 28-30, 2022, has been moved to July 15, 2022. Please, note that this is a FIRM DEADLINE, no more extension will be provided.

Contributions coming from researchers working on applying Artificial Intelligence to network management, and specifically to manage the edge of the network, are strongly welcome.

We are waiting for your submissions and for meeting you in Rome in September.

Best Regards

Laura Galluccio

Giovanni Schembra

Technical Outline

With the evolution of the 5G network towards incoming 6G systems to support new time-critical application scenarios like manufacturing production automation, robotic surgery and autonomous driving cars, artificial intelligence at the edge of the network will be a key enabler to provide services with very low latency and unmanned control. This evolution will be enabled by embedding intelligence within the network elements with the twofold target of providing, on the one hand, optimal service deployment and delivery, automatic network operations for management, orchestration and diagnostics and, on the other hand, an intelligent support engine for enhanced user experience.

Intelligent networks learn, observe and exploit the behavior of the individual users, network and devices through sensing and reasoning. The concept of intelligence at the network edge inherits the solid background of autonomic networking, cognitive management, and artificial intelligence, and applies them to the future Internet and the 5G/6G systems, where softwarization of the underlying networks provide a perfect breeding ground for them.

This Special Session deals with the emerging research topic of applying artificial intelligence at the edge of the network, i.e. very close to the devices where data are produced. For this reason, this represents today a challenging concept of paramount importance for network optimization and advanced network service provisioning.
