Dear Colleagues

It's my pleasure to present the Call for Papers for the fourth edition of the European Workshop on Software Defined Networks, EWSDN 2015.

The workshop will be held from 30 September to 2 October 2015 in Bilbao, Spain and will be hosted by the University of the Basque Country in the Bizkaia Aretoa venue.

This CFP can be be downloaded at
http://www.ewsdn.eu/files/Documents/EWSDN2015/ewsdn2015-cfp.pdf

During these last years EWSDN has been focusing in bringing together, in a highly interactive event, researchers and practitioners at the leading edges of software-based networks and network function virtualization, following a rather practical approach and seeking for being useful to establish links, technical exchanges and interactions among the community in Europe and beyond. While both technologies are leaving the hype zone and becoming available for deployment, new ideas and developments are being produced through research projects, industrial activity or highly motivated researchers.

This year we are interested in papers showing preliminary results as well as consolidated results backed by experimentation and live demonstrations that demonstrate new developments. Finally, we also encourage the submission of position papers bringing up innovative ideas.

Topics for contributions include, but are not limited to the following:

* Advancements in SDN technology
- Virtualization architectures
- New controller architectures, APIs and northbound interfaces
- Forwarding abstractions, APIs, object models
- New switch architectures and software/hardware implementations supporting SDN
- SDN frameworks and tools, SDN-based equipment: controllers, switches, integrated development environment, verifying, testing and debugging environment

* SDN and NFV
- Network Function Virtualization and SDN, network virtualization techniques
- Interoperation of cloud architectures and SDN
- Security implications of SDN and security enhancements to SDN, as well as new security services enabled by SDN

* Interaction with legacy networks
- Wireless integration, characterization of wireless interfaces, flows, handover support
- Optical extensions to OpenFlow, Transport SDN.
- Evolved packet core, LTE support for OpenFlow
- Carrier-grade SDN architectures and equipment
- Access networks

* Application and SDN
- Middleware for application and SDN
- QoS/QoE control techniques with SDN
- Application of SDN in novel areas
- SDN architectures for 5G networks

* Education and SDN/NFV
- Theory of SDN.
- Teaching virtualized networks.
- Use of large testbeds for education.

* Experimentation and deployments
- Practical experiments on SDN/Cloud/OpenFlow/ForCES
- Testbeds/Research and Education Networks (REN) deployment and operation
- Multi-domain interconnection/exchange mechanisms for SDN

* Industry and SDN
- Identification of use cases for SDN, SDN-related service and business models, strategic role of SDN in network evolution
- Regulatory aspects around network virtualization
- Standardization: ONF, ETSI, IETF, IRTF… cooperation, interest clash?
The submission format is CPS Conference Style, A4 format, of up to 6 pages, double column, 10pt font. Please use standard CPS conference proceedings template in A4 format. EWSDN Workshop Proceedings will be submitted for indexing and publication to IEEE Xplore.
