IFAD’s Treasury and Innovation Unit are pleased to invite you to the upcoming IFAD Innovation Talk #16 on Bond Investments for Sustainable Development (https://ifad.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_MszyqJnqQ_aSTSQmXplV0A#/registration), happening on Tuesday, May 28 at 14:00 CEST, at the Oval Room (IFAD Headquarters, Rome) & via Zoom. About the Talk:

The urgent challenges posed by climate change and social upheavals demand innovative solutions in sustainable finance. This talk will explore how environmental, social, and governance (ESG) issues create opportunities for international cooperation between the public and private sectors to fund the multi-trillion-dollar investments needed to achieve ESG goals. This event is brought to you by the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) in collaboration with the UN Innovation Network.

Objectives of the talk :

* Synthesize insights from engagement in innovative finance and optimal strategies for investing in ESG thematic bonds.
* Provide evidence that ESG considerations can be both a risk management tool and an investment opportunity, driving alpha with traditional performance metrics.
* Examine IFAD Treasury’s experience in ESG bond investments, highlighting the balance between financial performance and sustainability.

Key Questions to be Addressed:

* What are the differences in terms of risk and performance between ESG and conventional bonds?
* What are the pros and cons of current ESG investment strategies such as negative screening and sustainability themed investing?
* What are the biggest challenges facing the ESG bond industry today?
* How do responsible investors reconcile financial performance and ESG considerations in managing investments?
